What I Studied

Atmosphere, movement, and attention in public space.

Focus

How people sense a place: sound, light, density, pace, and social signals.

Output

A set of insights and design principles that translate atmosphere into actionable design cues.

Why it matters

Understanding atmosphere helps design spaces that feel safer, calmer, and more inclusive.

Process

Collect → interpret → translate into design cues.

1) Field Notes

Observe

I collected observations about movement patterns, noise levels, and moments of comfort/discomfort.

Add: 3–5 short “place notes” or photos.

2) Patterns

Synthesize

I grouped observations into themes (e.g., openness, safety cues, rhythm, and pauses).

Add: theme map or clustering screenshot.

3) Design Translation

Apply

I converted insights into design cues: guidance, pacing, and sensory “markers” that help people orient.

Add: “principles → example” list.
